Breathing Room: Time to Run

Sermon: There's something in all of us that wants to walk as close to the line as possible.  By seeing moral breathing room, we set standards for ourselves that allow lesser consequences than when living right on the line.

Breathing Room: Less is More

Ever feel like you can’t catch your breath? Our culture encourages us to fill up our schedules and empty our bank accounts. Living on the line creates too much stress and tension but God has a better way. Our Heavenly Father wants to lead you to a life with breathing room.

In our attempt to get the most out of life, our schedules spin out of control. Our time is limited, and someone has to decide how we spend the time we have left. When we surrender our time to our Heavenly Father, He will lead us to breathing room.

Assumptions often blind us to reality. When I assume something won’t happen or can’t happen, but then it does happen - it’s unexpected. Jesus not only comes in an unexpected way, he wants to do the unexpected in our lives.

People take you seriously because of what you’ve accomplished, what you look like, or who you’re married too. There’s nothing wrong with being a “Three P” person. But when it comes to pride, “Three P” people face a unique challenge.

There’s something that rises up in each of us. It keeps us from apologizing, admitting we’re wrong, or showing weakness. It keeps us from forgiving. It causes us to lie about our pasts, to cheat instead of loose, and to feel happy when someone else fails. It stands in the way not only of our relationships with other people, but our relationship with God. What is this thing and how do we kill it?

There is a sin that is so common to the human experience, it is the gateway to all other sins. It promises to make us bigger, better and more important, but only make us smaller and meaner. It strips us of our capacity to connect with others. So, what is “it” and how do we kill it?
